Label news: Universal acquires Harmonia Mundi owner
NewsThe once-independent French classical label, based in Arles, was bought out by the Belgian group Pias in 2015.
Two years ago, Universal took a 49% stake in Pias.
Today it absorbed the rest of the company.
What happens to HM has yet to be clarified.
I don’t think it is a good trend when very big companies devour smaller ones. Because what mostly happens is that all innovative, independent thinking evaporates and everything becomes the usual average mediocre stuff, diversity disappears, and power is centralized. The result is impoverishment and dehumanization.
Totally agree.
In a very different context that is what I experienced in an academic setting.
Bigger is definitely not always better!
Really bad news because less intelligent people run Universal than ran Harmonia Mundi.
It will get universalised. RIP
