So what? I do not take political advice from musicians.
This is incredibly brave of her. She will face a storm of… oh.
Joyce, let’s not forget that the only reason the convicted felon wants to win the presidency is so that he doesn’t end up in jail.
It is obvious that he only cares about himself in this very important election.
Trump is no Angel. But a lot of trials are coming from a partial justice hungry for revenge….they were not so harsh about bidens son and ready to dismiss or requalify….when justice is instrumental, nothing good can come out of it…
All we need to know about revenger we learned from the Democrats. How many farcical insane cases have they thrown at him? Please. What nonsense. And yet he survives. How many impeachments ?
Well said.
I’ve got news for her…I don’t recognize the country now. Every four years, a few, who are in some degree in the spotlight, come out with these statements. Others come out saying that if “such and such a candidate wins”, they are going to move from the country. Good for them. I’ll send them bus fare. As for this wonderful artist, she’s already left the country (moved to Spain years ago). I don’t really give a hoot what she or ANYONE says about their personal feelings regarding a candidate….especially one who doesn’t even live in the country. And, to be clear, the USA is a very large and very diverse country with many opinions and lifestyles. The world that Joyce lives in is not the same world that many (if not most) live in. And that’s fine…but don’t insult half of the country over and over and over with your judgement. Just try to live in the peace and unity that you preach. And, with that, I’m headed out to vote.
“I don’t really give a hoot what she or ANYONE says about their personal feelings regarding a candidate…”
and
“…but don’t insult half of the country over and over and over with your judgement”
Please explain to an outsider.
Am I correct in thinking that half of the country isn’t able (or should not) to recognise evil, stupidity, lies, sexism, vulgarity, threats, incite to rebellion?
I seems not to, and therein lies the real danger from the United States.
Yes, half the country ignores the evil, stupidity, lies, sexism, vulgarity, threats and inciting that is done (and has been done for years) by BOTH parties and their candidates.
Yes we Republicans do recognize evil and stupidity and all else and more you mention. That’s why we are voting for Donald Trump. So that we do not continue the evil that has been Biden and Harris.
Doesn’t sound like it. I guess serial rapist, felon and insane narcissist isn’t enough.
More than half of the country opposes Trump. After all, Trump lost the popular vote by 4.5 % in 2020, and 2.1% in 2016.
Interestingly, Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 by the exact percentage as Gerald Ford in 1976. The devil is in the details or, rather, in the Electoral College. Nobody referred to “Ford’s America” after 1976.
Popular vote is mostly symbolic in the US system. The Electoral College aims to curb the risk of “the tyranny of the majority.”
America is 50 different governments—states—united. The needs and pursuits of those in rural areas should not be outweighed by the needs and pursuits of those in urban areas. The framers, true geniuses, recognized this societal imbalance and setup the EC level the needs of all Americans. Should it be no surprise that people in America‘a largest cities (maybe Houston less so) have similar values? Should presidential candidates aim to appeal to the majority? If so they would spend most of their time campaigning in and for people in these large cities. That is not fair. It is true that with the EC that in each election, a handful of states —swing states— seem to have the most sway. This is the EC working as it should. Swing states change. In 2000, West Virginia shocked Democrats when it went with W; each cycle, a few states seem to be highly competitive: often they are Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, and a few others, but each cycle they do change. Florida is not really swing state this cycle, but PA is.
Congress and Senate elections already give majority representation at the national level. What makes America special is that there is not one central power, but rather a balance of powers. It leads to gridlock: however, that is the government mechanism working.
Democrats and Republicans aren’t all that different. Democrats want to redistribute wealth, Republicans want to redistribute self-reliance.
Democrats want tax payer funded sex changes for convicted felons, Republicans want a secure boarder.
These are issues at hand. The boarder has little impact on NYC, Philadelphia, even LA. But Texas, Arizona, NM, that is a mother story.
Here is a link to an article discussing the current perils of democracy in the US in the light of other countries that slid into autocracy. It relies heavily on the findings of political scientist Adam Przeworski, now professor emeritus at NYU. Przeworski fled autocracy twice: first Poland, then Chile. He has spent his life studying why some democracies survive while others fall into autocracy.

That’s enough about Biden. What’s your take on Trump?
Ideally, both would lose and we would get a real Republican who would close the borders. Deport every single illegal alien. That would be enough for four years. Think of all the relief to public resources ! But as it stands we have Trump and can only hope this time he will keep his promises and not hire his family or his enemies. The survival of any country depends on borders.
,,,actually I would take down all borders….
So, to summarize, you found DiDonato’s criticism of your political opinions so destructive of peace and unity that you came to Slippedisc to criticize her political opinions. And you’re so annoyed at the phoniness of celebrities discussing the need to leave the country but not following through, that you decided to add that to your criticism of a woman who has carried through with leaving the country without making a big announcement about it.
You seem not very rational and hard to please so I’m not surprised a political party that promises the freedom to criticize others without being criticized in return would appeal to you.
To summaraize…you a lot of presumptions and judgements about my political opinions…but don’t know squat.
You were so upset by her statement that you came to Slippedisc and draft a fairly long post expressing disapproval and judgment of her. In all that text did you attempt to refute a single thing she said? No. The only thing you criticized her for is not remaining silent when she has opinions that differ from yours. Yet you see no irony in publicly expressing your own opinions at length.
My statement that you like the right to criticize the opinions of others without the risk of being criticized in return is not presumption. That is reading comprehension. And, I assume to make it clearer, you reiterate in your most recent post that any criticism of you is judgment. (But apparently, it’s not judgmental for you to criticize DiDonato or me.)
You and the people who agree with you politically are not more important and valuable than the people who don’t.
If I were to indulge in presumption based on what you have posted so far, I would presume 1) that your political opinions are probably morally objectionable (given your insistence above for special status for yourself; and 2) that they are probably deeply irrational and only dimly understood by you (if they weren’t why didn’t you challenge Didonato’s opinions instead of getting offended that she expressed them?)
You are proving, over and over, that you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about in relation to my post. My post reveals nothing about my political thoughts or beliefs. My problem with her post is the same I have with so many who feel that, just became they have some notoriety, that they have to attempt to influence other with their thoughts. Thankfully, most people are smart enough to not be so moved. Being a “celebrity” does not qualify your opinion over anyone else’s. Your presumptions are ridiculous and your drivel is worse. If JDD were “here” to actually have a discourse on poltics, I’d be happy to have that with her. There’s no reason for me to challenge her “beliefs” here at this time because she is not here to respond. That’s silly. You, however, took it upon yourself to “speak to me” directly…and with tons of misjudgment. What a mistake. That’s a kind of arrogance that is truly troubling.
I barely listened to her as a musician, so I take even less notice on political matters. I just thank God I am not American and therefore don’t have to decide. I just have to put up with the consequences of their decision.
“…has come out….”
OMG, as if the USA really has another choice.
Apologies to this diva, but the world doesn’t revolve (or resolve) around any opera singer, contrary to beliefs around —wide around—the fat ones’ singing.
Whitney Houston is my go-to singer, but we can hardly be sure she’d have stepped up for VP Harris.
President Trump will win 2024.
VP Harris made a blunder in overlooking Josh Shapiro, because either his political record was far more popular than hers or because he’s Jewish—but likely both.
Instead, her first decision, after ousting her “brilliant, Jeopardy-ready” Biden and usurp the nomination.
Plenty of Democrats will sit this one out, or vote for President Trump.
My dream ticket: Tulsi Gabbard or Cory Booker, or both.
Rashida Tlaib would be my vote but this is still sadly an unpopular opinion. Then again my favorite composers are Unsuk Chin, Caroline Shaw, Julius Eastmann and Karl Stockkhausen to name a few.
Yura
(They/them)
Tulsi is a Republican now. Her book is great, written when she was an Independent. You might get your wish.
Harris has a Jewish husband…
RE: Joyce
Harris prefers guys who knock up the maid and slap models at Cannes Film Festival—best guy Harris could get. Josh Shapiro isn’t in that club.
Joyce D has finally spoken, however, and I’m glad, after such silence that she finally spoke up—despite the conflicted state she must have found herself in. Flipping a coin is not a way to cast a vote. Her biggest fans, both of them, will be voting for Harris too.
Good for Joyce D!
Politics come and go, but tattoos are forever.
Trump has already been president and we still recognize the country. The alternative is a women who had demonstrated that prostituting yourself to powerful men can get you to powerful jobs.
wow! This is really the end of the USA as a country to be respected!
Hardly.
I didn’t expect to see such a nasty (and untrue) comment on slipped disc.
A bit of non politically correct is good…espescially with all these good conscience artists, journalists usually very intolerant to other opinions …We fortunately are not anymore in the “couch promotion” era…
Hmmm….and is Trump now no Elon Musk’s b-boy? Get real.
And in what category do you place Mrs. Trump?
What you wrote about Vice President Harris is blatantly false and offensive. But even if it were true, I’d vote for a prostitute any day over an odious and repellent convicted felon who has bragged about sexually assaulting women and is now being punished (albeit inadequately) by having to pay a fortune in damages to one of his victims.
She lives in her leftist, fantasy bubble. No one cares what she thinks; if anything, I will not be able to listen to her without thinking about how stupid she sounds.
She thinks a second go with the senile racist rapist, narcissistic insurrectionist, and lying felon would be disastrous? Agreed. Time for him to prep for prison.
Lighten up, Francis.
Why – oh why – do “celebrities” of many shades feel they have to share their preferences? Answer – ego, and nothing more.
I have spent years reading history and political biography – shelves of it. Now, if I want an opinion about singing, i’d listen to her expertise or attend a masterclass, but otherwise darling, do yourself a favour, and just shut-up.
Thank you.
Thé problem is that it won’t be recognizable with either of them. 2 equally bad choices….
An opera Beyonce speaks and has as much impact as a cow fart. Stick to your career and don’t show your massive ignorance to the world. When Trump is president I will most definitely recognize my country.
After how many millions of illegal aliens coming across the border – we already don’t recognize our country. Gangs taking over apartment buildings. See Minnesota, California, New York and soon to be Texas. And now Putin is importing North Koreans to back him up in Ukraine. Can Kamala point any of these places out on a map? And she accuses Trump of authoritarianism. Let me see, who tells us, what we can drive? What gas we can cook with? What we can drink? Seriously. And then the lawfare. We are in some kind of thought warp zone with these leftists. My friends who lived through different areas of Soviet occupation are all too familiar. Does anyone EVER fact check Kamala? How about her national sales tax…? Everything Democrats do is another tax.
Actually if you read something other than propaganda ( I know, you won’t ) you will find historically, democrats have saved the country more then republicans.
Stunning and brave.
Cool, now I know who to vote for.
What would I have done if she hasn’t posted that video?!? I didn’t have my mind made up until I watched her video. Thank goodness she posted that.
No one cares. What waste valuable blog space with politics?
“Yes we Republicans do recognize evil and stupidity and all else and more you mention. That’s why we are voting for Donald Trump.”
This explains everything: the Us is ready to jump into the abyss.

She’s free to leave and take any leftists with her. Good riddance.
The state of Missouri, a/k/a Misery, is a solid “red” (Republican) state, so Joyce’s vote, sadly, will not help turn the state blue for Harris. At least she can vote her conscious.
I was able to vote several commenters up or down, but I was also blocked several times, and received the error message, “invalid recaptcha.”
This Joyce DiDonato person is a narcissist pulling a publicity stunt. She’s also a communist/racial socialist. Thank goodness, she doesn’t live in my country. Or do I even have a country, anymore?
since when does a singer’s opinion on politics count for more than the delivery man’s?
