The last French maker of accordions, Maugein, has gone into liquidation after 105 years. They blame unfair competition from China, along with the slump brought on by Covid.

The last instrument leaves the factory next week.

    Maugein is not the last accordion producer in France. The Cavagnolo concern based in Cava-France, Beligneux, has been producing accordions in France for over a century and remains active. As are a number of artisan wizards turning out premium quality accordions to order. Bertrand Gaillard, Thierry Benetoux, Marc Serafini, and Atelier Loffet, to name a few.
