The European Commission has renewed its commitment to Opera Europa, the leading network of professional opera and ballet companies, and its flagship streaming platform OperaVision, with a 2,8 million euro grant for a four-year period from 2025 to 2028.

This is the largest grant ever given to Opera Europa since it began its streaming activities in 2015. The new grant comes from the European Union’s Creative Europe European Platforms for Emerging Artists programme. Opera Europa has assembled a consortium of 44 organisations from 17 countries.

Well done to the EU when I was an MEP I was President of Friends of Music and along with Nana Mouskouri MEP and other colleagues made sure that music was an important part of EU policy. This included funding Operavision the European Youth Orchestra the European Youth Opera programme The European Youth Jazz Programme the European City of Culture etc etc.
Now we don’t have access to these programmes and British musicians find it much more difficult to tour Europe. Still we have blue passports so that’s all right! Hugh Kerr former MEP now editor of the Edinburgh Music Review
