Death of influential US organist, 91
RIPFounder of the Organ Historical Society in 1956 and its president for many years, Barbara Owen proselytised extensively on behalf of American organ music.
She became librarian of the Organ Library of the American Guild of Organists at Boston University in 1985, held various other positions in the Guild and wrote a biography of E. Power Biggs.
Barbara died in a Massachussetts hospital after breaking her hip.
Barbara was tireless in her promotion of the fine pipe organs built in the united States in the 19th and 20th centuries.
She will be missed- a treasured fixture of the Boston organ music scene.
Indeed, she was tireless…over the span of many, many years.
