Death of French maestro, 68
RIPMessage received:
The Forum Voix Etouffées regrets to inform you of the passing today of its founder and director Amaury du Closel, who passed away last night at the age of 68.
Du Closel was artistic director of Opéra Nomade from 2000 and founder of Forum Voix Etouffées, a body promoting works by composers persecuted, exiled or silenced in the 20th century’s major tyrranies. His book on suppressed music won national awards.
RIP. Very young for a conductor to leave us – I will hunt out his book, it looks like an interesting read.
I’m not sure his book has been translated into English. It should. Rest in Peace. He worked quite a bit with Romanian orchestras.
The title of his book is ‘Les Voix étouffées du Troisième Reich. Entartete Musik’ (978-2742752645), which appears to be available only in French. In the meantime, Erik Levi’s ‘Music in the Third Reich’ (Macmillan, 1994) covers a similar subject area.
RIP. A great loss to the world of exile music.
