The Wien Modern festival has called off four Arditti Quartet concerts over the coming week at the Konzerhaus and the Musikverein. The quartet, which is on a 50th anniversary tour, suffered a setback when cellist Lucas Fels broke his arm.

Since the programme is a cycle of Schoenberg quartets together with contemporary works, it was impossible to find a replacement cellist at short notice.

The series of four concerts will be rescheduled some time next year.

  • Susan Bradley says:

I sympathise: I broke my arm 3 weeks ago. Cannot even contemplate lifting any of my tubas.

  • David K. Nelson says:

We can only hope for a total recovery for this artist — even broken arms which the doctors regard as entirely healed can remain problematic for a string player, regardless of which arm.
