The departure of Dominique Meyer as Sovrintendente has set off a gave of musical chairs on the top floor of La Scala.

First to go is the supremely well-informed André Comploi, Meyer’s right-hand man for the past 17 years in Vienna and Milan. He will be succeeded by Paolo Gavazzeni, a former Scala staffer who is presently artistic director of the television channel Classica HD, broadcast on the Sky television platform, Canale 136.

  • Edward A. says:

I’m sure Andre Comploi has a great career ahead of him. Great guy!

  • Dominic Stafford says:

Andre is a lovely man, and I am sure he’s going to be with us all for a long time.

I’ve known Paolo since we were ‘young dogs’ together at Covent Garden. He trained as a pianist and conductor, has a very good knowledge of repertoire and speaks about opera with great charm and passion.

  • Fabian says:

    Paolo Gavazzeni who?

  • Confused says:

17 years is a long time to be #2. Is Mr. Comploi interested in having his own thing? Will he look for a company/house of his own? Or does he prefer to operate with the freedom that not being in the spotlight bring?

  • Larry L. Lash says:

That is NOT André in the photo!
