The much-recorded Valerie Tryon passed 90 last month without fuss.

She has lived in Canada since 1976 and is being celebrated this week at a concert at McMaster University.

    Bravo. I love artists like this, those who just get on with it. I’m thinking Arrau over Horovitz, for example. And, of course, Valerie Tryon. Happy birthday, long may you prosper.

    Wonderful pianist. Her Mendelssohn/Rachmaninoff Scherzo is a model of lightness and ease. Quite the equal of any.
