US sax of amazing grace has died at 95
RIPThe phenomenal saxophonist and composer Benny Golson died this weekend in Manhattan.
He played himself in the Steven Spielberg movie The Terminal, starring Tom Hanks.
His compositions include “I Remember Clifford”, “Blues March”, “Stablemates”, “Whisper Not”, “Along Came Betty” and “Killer Joe”.
Golson’s appearance in the The Terminal was the lone bright spot in what may be Spielberg’s worst film.
RIP, Benny.
One of the all-time greats. A true legend.
Great player and composer who had a huge positive influence in the jazz World . Got to hear him a number of times.
An amazing musician and a fine gentleman has gone. I remember well his concert in Munich a few years ago when he told the audience many lovely stories of his jazz life. Rest in peace, Mr. Golson, and thank you for your wonderful music!
Philly boy made good! And a nice man, by all reports. I especially liked his work with Art Farmer.
All the tributes agree that Benny was a great character, as well as a brilliant player and composer.
A Great Day in Harlem – he was on that legendary photoshoot.
I believe that only Sonny Rollins is left from there.
RIP Benny.
