Biz news: More woe as Marin Alsop quits
NewsThe London-based agency Inntermusica, which yesterday lost Yuja Wang, has just seen Marin Alsop walk through the door.
She’s joining AskonasHolt in Europe, consolidating her main relationship with its partner Opus3.
All this before breakfast on the first Tuesday back at work.
I wonder if she is upset because she didn’t get the CSO conductor job…
CSO got the right person!!
Doubt she was even in the running
Intermusica: current agent of JEG….just saying.
I sincerely doubt Marin Alsop cares whatsoever about her former agency representing Gardiner!
One of the worst conductors alive.
That’s funny. I played under her many years ago when she was conducting the LPO and thought she was rather good. . .
….who has a tendency to lecture about affirmative action. Cf a former Proms ‘performance’.
Don’t call us, we’ll call you!
Nasty and uncalled for. The question isn’t whether or not everyone is blind or not….its a question of whether or not they can listen
Childish schoolyard comment. She may not be on your top ten list, but a listing of worse conductors would be so long even Leporello would need a huge library of books to name them all. Her various MD and Principal Guest appointments are/have been impressive, while some of her series of recordings with a variety of excellent orchestras, including those in Naxos’ American Series collection, are very fine.
A very, very average talent, who somehow, perhaps with the help of a generous dollop of zeitgeist reached the lofty heights mediocrety.
Ditto Igor Levit. Although, Igor is probably even more of a narcissist.
Please brush up your spelling… MEDIOCRITY
Alsop gave an excellent performance of Tchaikovsky’s 6th symphony a few years back in S.P. On the basis of that I can think of a couple of recently elevated young conductors who, at least for now, are way below that standard.
As a father of two gifted female musicians I was thrilled when she was appointed as conductor of the Baltimore Orchestra…that was until I heard several of her recordings…mediocre would be a compliment in describing her performances. I can say without boasting that my lifetime listening to music and extensive musical training provides me with the ability to tell good from bad. There is no room for hacks to advance on anything less than merit. And doing so hurts truly gifted female artists.
What utter nonsense. MA had made some terrific recordings- do you detractors know what you are talking about?
Wishing my dear friend, Marin, all the best, always!
She conducted the BSChorus when she was with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. I loved her!
