Philadelphia Orchestra admits 4 new players
OrchestrasThey are Assistant Principal Bass Tobias (Toby) Vigneau (pictutred) and second violin section members John Bian, Eliot Heaton, and MuChen Hsieh.
They come from major orchestras in New Mexico, Milwaukee, Detroit and Houston.
Do we know if they’re tenured or is this the beginning of the tenure process? Hopefully they won’t have to pay off any of them like they paid off the assistant principal percussionist to leave the orchestra for silence two years ago.
The New Mexico Philharmonic may be a very good regional orchestra – not sure you’d call them “major.” Congratulations to these players.
He is from New Mexico but already had a position with Montreal Symphony.
Wait. What?
There’s a major orchestra in NM?
(Yes, there are good groups in NM –excellent ones. But major?)
They also announced today that Esteban Batallan is the new principal trumpet having lured him from the Chicago Symphony.
