I’m guessing you meant to say “on” the podium instead of “in” the podium. The last time I checked, the maestro had not become a termite.

  • Officer Krupke says:

    Glorious.

  • Pianofortissimo says:

How long will this orchestra play around?

  • John Holmes says:

Hopefully he’ll make it to the London Proms in a few weeks

  • Pedro says:

And on August 15 in Salzburg. Brahms violin cto with Mutter and Schubert’s Great. In the morning Bruckner 8 with the VPO and Muti. I’ll be there. Two days before Clemenza, the day before Giovanni and the day after Hofmann. Great festival.

    • Petros Linardos says:

Do you have an opinion on Muti’s approach to Bruckner? Just curious.

And what about Petrenko and Bruckner. Here I have an ulterior motive: I just ordered my tickets to hear the BPO at Carnegie Hall in November. The one concert features Bruckner’s 5th.

      • John Kelly says:

I’m going to that also. Petrenko is good at pretty much everything, he might be exceptional. I heard Muti do Bruckner 6 in Philly years ago. It was very good.

      • B. Guerrero says:

Muti is competent in most everything he does. Based on recordings that are available, I find his Bruckner a bit on the ‘slick’ side. There’s not much Austrian soil under the fingernails, so to speak. If he’s smart, he’ll just give the Vienna Phil. a downbeat and then walk off (I’m not being literal).

  • Stephen Greene says:

    Wonderful news

  • Herbie G says:

Quite apart from his remarkable musical attributes and his founding of this orchestra, Barenboim is a hero for his determination not to let his formidable health problems get the better of him, just like Michael Tilson Thomas. May he long be the victor in this life-affirming battle.

  • Anne Evans says:

Thrilled that you are back here again.
    With love from Brunnhilde xx

  • Roger Rocco says:

    Bravo maestro! Welcome home!

  • Ineke Hickin says:

That is fantastic news, Daniel and his group of musicians have been my constant joy for many decades.
