Choral evensong  at 3.30pm today will be the final Winchester service led by director of music Andrew Lumsden. A full house is expected with many singers and music lovers past and present driving in from afar.

The numbers will be seen as a protest against the cathedral administration, which has imposed silence on departing staff.

The bishop is conducting an inquiry. This is not over yet.

I’ve watched all the services from The Southern Choirs festival from Winchester over the last few days – I couldn’t spot Andy Trenier anywhere!

The Precentor wasn’t at any of the SCF services, and has not been present at the final services today.

  • Anon says:

I will be there; along with many others I am sure. For those unable to get to Winchester, the service can be seen online here:

Well worth a watch – if only to witness such slick hypocritical (coached?) delivery from the Dean, clearly at ease spouting such insincere toe curling clap trap in view of all that has happened there to bring this musical community into such disrepute.
She’s got more front than Blackpool in her unsincere thanks to Andy and Claudia who behave professionally as expected whilst listening to such insincerity.
Mrs Dean is clearly uncomfortable with the extraordinary wave of loving response from the audience/congregation as numerous ‘nervous’ laughs and side comments to nearby senior clergy show.
Does she not realise this accolade is being closely watched and on record via her Cathedral’s own YouTube channel for further scrutiny?
Such syncophantic delivery only makes her look a fool, highlight the hypocrisy of the church, and makes one realise any church musician these days are best away from such two faced hypocritical unchristian club.
Good luck Andy and Claudia, you deserve better than this bunch of so called christians!

This was a very moving service spoiled only by the nauseating hypocrisy of the Dean. It was stomach churning to listen to.
