Spanish cellist wins in Leipzig
OrchestrasThe cello section of the 24th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition has been won by Víctor García García, performing on a Baroque cello.
Garcia, 30, takes home 10,000 Euros and the promise of future solo engagements.
The winner of the organ prize was Julian Emanuel Becker, 19, from Germany.
long ago played a cellist named Pablo
famed as Spain’s diablo
but today we have Víctor García
whose mom is another García
and as likely as not Pablo’s forgot
once Víctor’s made his stellar career
Today cellists might be hot,
but Pablo will never be forgot!
Totally agree. I heard him play in Lausanne so many years ago. In my long lost youth.

Interesting that the cellist who got second prize also received the audience prize and the prize for recording a CD with GENUIN classics..
No mention of cellist Johannes Gray, who despite getting 2nd prize was the audience favourite and received the award of a CD production? Seems like he’s the winner here.
