The most riveting Shylock I’ve seen (at the Aldwych for the RSC forty years or so ago), which he played totally against stereotype as a young(ish) confident, sexually attractive character. I also recommend the TV adaptation of Trollope’s The Way We Live Now.
A lot to recommend: my first memory of him is as Blott on the Landscape.
But does anyone remember that he once played Japp?
David Suchet is the best Poirot. Just love him as an actor.
David Suchet is the most brilliant actor I’ve ever admired. I got to know him by his Poirot role. Him playing Poirot is so natural that he seems to be the character on his own. He really is an exceptional actor!
He’s also an interesting documentarist. His commitment to the C of E prompted him to make a couple of docos, “in the Footsteps of..” both St. Peter and St. Paul. Recommended — I saw them on YouTube, if they are still up.
