Concertmaster to head LA Academy
OrchestrasThe Colburn School’s Music Academy is to be headed by the US violinist Margaret Batjer, concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra since 1998.
Batjer, 65, will give up her professorship at USC Thornton School of Music but will continue to play, apparently with the LACO.
Wonderful news that an artist is still playing in her sixties, not put out to grass as is the case in the big four London orchestras! Ageism at its best…We are fighting against it but hasn’t been “picked up” by the British press.
