A new video from Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall shows a rare performance of an 1893 Polonaise by the future founder of the Polish state, Ignacy Jan Paderewski.

Unexpectedly in these confrontational times, it is played by a Russian pianist, Yulianna Avdeeva, winner of the 2010 Chopin competition.

One hopes that Avdeeva will play Paderewski’s Piano Concerto, which is a much better piece.

Wow, what an incredible pianist! And if I may say, in a different league to the orchestra accompanying her, who sound shockingly scrappy for a national- level ensemble… But a cool piece!
