A Russian embraces Paderewski
Daily Comfort ZoneA new video from Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall shows a rare performance of an 1893 Polonaise by the future founder of the Polish state, Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
Unexpectedly in these confrontational times, it is played by a Russian pianist, Yulianna Avdeeva, winner of the 2010 Chopin competition.
Why is it controversial for a russian pianist to play polish music?
On what planet do you live Norman?
Norman is a typical Westerner. They assume we have just one brain cell, like they do.
That, and how wonderful she plays music without nationalistic blindfolds, contrary to the Polish, who currently don’t perform any Russians, not even Tchaikovsky…
Yeah, read this and the comments, https://slippedisc.com/2023/08/just-in-polish-competition-bans-all-russian-music/
The caveat is that the Poles do not actially love Ukrainians. They just hate the Russians more.
Poland is the most ethnically homogenious state in Europe, 97% Polish. They got rid of Germans, Jews, Ukrainians, Russians, Belorusians, Lithuanians etc after WW2. There must be a reason for this, right?
No offense, but according to her Website she will perform Prokofiev 8th Sonata, Rach 2nd Concerto in a near future.
Ah sorry i misread your comment, how can i delete my comments
Music is universal – no borders, no conflicts, no wars. Bravi to Yulianna Avdeeva and Filharmonii Narodowej w Warszawie!
You wish. The only thing that really has no borders is hate.
Take a look at her official site: judging by her latest CD she’s no supporter of Putin.
She is very loved in Poland. After the outbreak of the war, she played Ukrainian songs at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw.
Beautiful Pianist, Beautiful Women
One hopes that Avdeeva will play Paderewski’s Piano Concerto, which is a much better piece.
Wow, what an incredible pianist! And if I may say, in a different league to the orchestra accompanying her, who sound shockingly scrappy for a national- level ensemble… But a cool piece!
