Simone Young, at last!
How many should there be.
A way to avoid saying they are all women!
Yea, this is pretty cool.
It’s Bayreuth. They will be invisible in the covered pit.
It’s about time! Keep it up!
Don’t know much about OL, but I do know that SY and NS are very good.
Oksana Lyniv’s electrifying conducting of The Flying Dutchman has been a highlight of the festival in recent years.
I have had the great pleasure of working with both Simone Young and Oksana Lyniv, sadly not Nathalie Stutzmann. They are fantastic colleagues and brilliant conductors. Nothing more to add apart from that quality usually rise to the top no matter what.
Fantastic photo! Bayreuth! An impossible dream for me. One thing I can say about this blog is that while reading all the comments & whinges about the World’s most prestigious orchestras, I am mentally making a list of ‘impossible dreams’! Sometimes, I just want to say, ‘Stop nit picking. Just count your blessings and listen to the music’.
More to the point, how are ticket sales doing these days?
Isn’t it still a 7-year waiting list?
No more 7 or 10 year wait. These days, after the Covid pandemic, you can just buy at the door with a high degree of success. I did that last year and plan to do again this August.
My fly on the wall informs me that in fact these are the three Rheinmaidens in disguise. They emancipated from the waters and now take charge of the goings-on.
Pro-tip: Don’t conduct in sandals of any sort. The orchestra in that pit doesn’t want to look at your feet for 6 hours.
Do some of the players still wear lederhosen? That could be whiffy.
Cosima led Bayreuth long before gender questions became trendy nonsense.
Agreed: Add to that, that Bayreuth is now the capital of Eurotrash. A complete joke production after production. How could anyone possibly be interested?
To answer your last question, a friend told me of unsold Ring tickets two years ago. There used to be a thriving black market.
@Truth Hurts: Which Bayreuth productions do you consider to be “a complete joke”?
Yes, Frau Cosima led it like an ossified museum. And don’t forget the lovely Winifred, Adolf’s gal-pal, who ran it with an iron cross, I mean fist, for 15 years.
What is your point?
