Message from the international opera singer Simon O’Neill:
I am so very proud to celebrate the appointment of my wife Carmel as the Chair of the Board for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Alongside her impressive career as a barrister, Carmel brings so much to this incredible group of musicians. Carmel loves the orchestra and the repertoire, from not only a governance position, but being an accomplished classical musician herself.

Orchestra welcomes top barrister and musician as new chair.

  • Mel Cadman says:

Am I being curmudgeonly in thinking it’s a bit out of order to sing the praises quite so loudly and publicly of one’s spouse?! She may well be exactly what the Orchestra wants and needs but maybe they should tell us that in slightly less laudatory fashion?

  • Nabucco. says:

    Star tenor…LOL.

  • Peter Martin says:

    Carmel who?
    Carmel O’Neil?
    Either way, congrats.

  • Dan Shea says:

ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE: for next season the Met is doing 18 productions, 4 new-ish (Tesori, Golijov, Heggie, Adams) in 7-9 performances each, vs. 14 standards: 28 Flute (17 taymor), the rest all double digits 11-19 (Boheme, Rigoletto, Aida, Trovatore, Tosca, Tosca, Nozze, …) except for 5 lovable exceptions: Salome, Frau, Hoffmann, Spades, Fidelio. In all, 2024-25 looks brilliant and mostly delicious with interesting casts, I predict healthy rebound upwards!

  • Mrs Rose Jump says:

She is a Chairwoman not a chair to sit on. This politically correct word is just ridiculous. Please Chairwoman or Chairman or Chairperson. Not Chair which is an inanimate object!!
