The violist Mathieu Herzog who quit the outstanding Quatuor Ébène a decade ago to pursue a conducting career, has been appointed artistic director of the Glanum Festival at Saint Rémy de Provence.

The Orchestre Appassionato that Herzog runs will be the resident ensemble.

Listen to me! You don’t need to go to music school to study conducting. You’ll just waste your time there. All you need is to be a violist in an orchestra, or in a quartet, and after several years just step on a podium, and Viola! You are a professional conductor, with much higher chances of getting gigs!
