UK founds first Centre of Excellence for Music and Dementia

Mor than 940,000 people in the UK have dementia.

The UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Music and Dementia will analyse how music in dementia care can reduce the need for health services while also improving the quality of life.

Manchester was chosen today to house the centre with more than £1million of funding from Mayor Andy Burnham, the NHS and the National Academy for Social Prescribing’s Power of Music Fund. The project will be driven by Manchester Camerata, with furter support from the University of Manchester and the Alzheimer’s Society.
