Met concertmaster gets own festival
OrchestrasDavid Chan will become director of Chicago’s Credo Music festival in 2025.
Meantime, he’ll join them as conductor.
Chan has held the first seat at the Metropolitan Opera since the turn of the century.
He says that faith-based Credo will be ‘a uniquely meaningful opportunity where I can draw on every facet of my professional life — as conductor, violinist, and teacher — and also fulfill my personal callings to service and ministry.’
Does God like classical music?
After reading the Psalms of David, one would certainly assume so.
Yes I really enjoy it.
Could you turn the volume down?
We hear it way down here in Lucifer’s Bar & Grill.
And would you please please stop with the MAMMA MIA on loop. It’s really torture.
Agreed!
What does that have to do with anything? David is an amazing musician, teacher, and human being. The students at the festival will surely come away from it as better musicians and colleagues. Isn’t that a good thing for the world?
Just not Bruckner.
Stupid question. The more interesting question is does classical music like God.
which god?
In that getup? What about cleavage? What about his nails? I bet that’s even his natural hair color. Has he learned nothing from his vantage point in the Met Orchestra? I don’t see success here.
(BTW, Mr. Chan is an excellent musician.)
Too much good intention can often yield not good results if skillsets are spread too thinly.
He’s been conducting for a while. Nothing has suffered.
In other words, atheists and LBGTQ’s are not welcome to his concerts.
There is no such festival in Chicago as far as I am aware.

I hope I can attend this sometime! He’s a great guy and wonderful violinist.
