Press note:
Decca Classics is thrilled to announce the exclusive signing of Alis Huws, the Official Royal Harpist to His Majesty King Charles III.

Wonder whether King David could have got a music deal nowadays.

Male, white, Israeli, military officer? No way.

  • Observing2 says:

    Don’t think King David would.

The current music industry has turned into nothing more than a beauty contest, where looks are first and music is third.

    • Sally says:

I assume you think money comes second then?

      • Tiredofitall says:

Everyone seems to be conflicted when it comes to art and commerce. In the end, classical music, opera in particular, has suffered in the age of the internet. Titillation is fine, but fleeting.

  • Xavier says:

    But will she ever tour?

  • Althea T-H says:

Why don’t you just congratulate her, rather than trying to make this a whinge on behalf of ‘disadvantaged’ men??

How disrespectful is that – both towards her as an individual, and towards all women who have had to be twice as good, in order to get half as much work as their male peers?

    Wow!!!

    • Allma Own says:

There is zero truth in that. The harp is over 90% played by women, and not all that well. They have natural advantages in earlier development of their manual dexterity, and use their looks to take advantage over men. It is the men who have to work far harder for far fewer opportunities. When is the last time you saw a man playing the harp in a hotel or restaurant, or at a wedding, or even in an orchestra?

  • Joel Kemelhor says:

Does the Decca recording contract mean Ms. Huws has been plucked from relative obscurity ?

    • Allma Own says:

She obviously got it because of her outgoing personality, her position as Royal Harpist, and the prior success, against all artistic standards, of her predecessor Catrin Finch. In other words, they see her as someone who will make money for them. Not art. Money.

  • Allma Own says:

She is mediocre at best, how appalling. The standards in Britain for harp are so low.

  • zandonai says:

My bad, I misread the title as “King’s Herpes”
