Germans demote an Italian GMD
OrchestrasThe state has stepped in to resolve a conflict at the Kassel State Theatre between the intendant Florian Lutz and the Generalmusikdirektor Franceso Angelico.
The Minister of Culture of the state of Hesse Timon Gremmels has decided in favour of the non-musician.
Lutz keeps his job. Angelico, 47, is demoted to chief conductor and confined to symphony concerts. His contract expires next year and will not be renewed.
Just to clarify a little further: It was a) Angelico’s wish to be released from his duties as GMD and to serve as Chief Conductor (and therefore not being a member of the theatre board anymore) for the rest of his term. And b) he already announced last year that is not considering extending his contract to give the orchestra and theatre plenty of time to search for a successor.
