DG has released a muted movement this week. No context.

Just Scriabin.

For sure she’s been conspicuously quiet these days. I mean not even a pro forma congratulations post for a past and future colleague. The break-up must have been acrimonious, and they weren’t even married, geez.

    • Al says:

Why should she say anything on the appointment? Clearly she would rather break up than spend a minute in Chicago. Must be a truly dreadful place.

      • Luke says:

No, it looks like it is the two of them, not the place that is the problem. She just cancelled her scheduled appearance with him in Cleveland also

        • Al says:

No, it looks like his accepting the offer from Chicago is the problem. She likely told him she would leave him if he agreed to add Chicago to his existing orchestras. So the place is indeed the problem.

          • Luke says:

She obviously doesn’t want to spend time with him in Cleveland either, so it isn’t just Chicago where she doesn’t want to spend time. She has cancelled both appearances.

    • HSY says:

LOL not even Mäkelä himself said anything about his own appointment on social media.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

Isn’t 37 getting a bit old for “break ups”? Unless it’s a marriage.

  • Michael says:

    Please come back to Chicago…

  • Sue says:

    Why score on the iPad?

  • StanG says:

    …..something very special indeed here…..

  • V.Lind says:

    Lovely piece, beautifully played.

  • Concertgebouw79 says:

Is it interisting? there’s a life outside of DG

  • Sinfonia Domestica says:

Seems a long way away from the Windy City, and she’s just turned her instagram to private!

  • Monty Earleman says:

SlippedDisc- all Yuja, all the time!

  • John Kongsgaard says:

Which Scriabin piece is this? Wonderful!

  • Michael says:

I hate the way most people play Scriabin. Usually lashings of rubato just for the sake of it until the piece is dragged completely out of shape.

Yuja Wang’s performance here is sublime. Dreamy, moving, exquisite touch, beautiful colours but such a strong sense of pulse all the way through. With maturity she has become an amazing artist, amongst the all time greats on the piano imo. I can’t wait to see her in Bilbao in June.

  • Where Has Music gone says:

Her best piece is “prelude and fugue and a beaver shot” Audiences got nuts for it!

  • just saying says:

Nice performance, but I fail to see what distinguishes her from any number of other virtuosos out there, other than her “image”

  • ParallelFifths says:

Mais au contraire, indeed there is “context,” namely, the imminent release early next month of YW’s latest DG recording, “The Vienna Recital.” Very nice track list including the Scriabin.

  • Debussyste says:

Yuja’s obsession on this site ! Yuja this, Yuja that … There are many other pianists who are so much more interesting …
