Sudden death of leading Scottish tenor, 58
RIPThe death has been announced of David Maxwell Anderson, a stalwart tenor of Glyndebourne and other leading UK companies, as well as a director, teacher and artist manager.
The cause was sudden heart failure.
The funeral is on May 21 at the City of London Crematorium.

He was an alumnus of the London Opera Studio, in the late 80s. He seemed to have the world at his feet, but he probably did too much too soon. I saw him do Rodolfo for Scottish Opera, around 1990. Magnificent.
I think he then developed a few vocal problems, but still managed to have a decent career, if not the career that had seemed possible.
RIP Far too young.
I sang with David in Opera North’s ‘Gianni Schicci’ – he had one of the finest young tenor voices I’d ever heard and a handsome, charismatic stage presence. A very sad loss. RIP

Awful news. David started as a baritone and was a very promising tenor by the time our study paths crossed at the RCM Opera Department in the mid-1980s. He was quite clearly a talent to watch. Sincerest condolences to his nearest and dearest.
Profoundly sad and shocked to hear of David’s sudden passing. He was a dear friend whose intelligence, sensitivity and ability to make me laugh will be sorely missed.
So saddened by this. He will be greatly missed. No words…
