Opera Australia finds a French concertmaster
OrchestrasThe concertmaster of Opéra National de Bordeaux, Matthieu Arama, is moving to Sydney to take the hot seat at Opera Australia.
The job has been unsettled since Jun Yi Ma left two years ago after a players’ vote of no confidence. His place was taken by Acting Concertmaster Huy-Nguen Bui but that has not worked out in any permanent fashion. Matthieu will find it’s all to play for.
Australia’s national opera company couldn’t find a worthy Concertmaster amongst the many fine Australian musicians in the country! I think that is very sad. It means that yet more Australian musicians will leave and go overseas.
Not sure he will be very much missed in Bordeaux. Very flat playing, very poor leading. Exciting time for this Orchestra to get an opportunity to hire involved players on those key positions
