Cardiff shuts out CBSO
NewsFrom St David’s Hall:
We’re sorry to let you know that we recently announced the temporary closure of the Hall until 2025 due to the Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) panels in the building. Unfortunately, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra concert scheduled for Thursday 2 May 2024 has now been cancelled.
Please note we are dealing with vast amount of customers and will do our best to get to everyone as soon as possible. Lines may be busy and we thank you for your patience.
We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused.
Surely St Davids Hall could have rehoused the CBSO performance elsewhere in Cardiff? – both professional and courteous to visiting orchestras?
They’ve cancelled literally every forthcoming performance. What you’re asking is impossible. Ahh that’s not how concert promotions work….other venues are busy, privately owned, have different requirements etc. The only straightforward is cancelling everyone.
Where do you suggest???? Do you know Cardiff?
Venues are booked years in advance.
They have cancelled all performances and visiting orchestras due to RAAC.
Maybe you would have the hall kept open and hope that the concrete doesn’t fall during the performance? An orchestra that could just raise the roof physically rather than metaphorically!
Since the hall is closing completely, why single out the CBSO in the headline? It makes it look as if they were specifically targeted, which is clearly not the case. Simply stirring?
Exactly! Sounds as if the CBSO has been black-listed by the hall when in fact it is the hall that has been condemned, as even some schools and hospitals have been. Stupid and misleading header when everything has to be cancelled.
I wonder where the 2025 Cardiff Singer of the World will be held? Is the Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay already booked up?
