This reminds me of Roman Kim’s effort! Both these guys have very long ring and pinky fingers and great finger independence, which help massively with lower/inner voice trills and pizz. Mr Tebbe has a completely different arrangement from Kim as well. Quite a remarkable feat.
THIS is why viola jokes persist.
Like a pig at the slaughter, a little less harmonious.
Is there any way to un-hear this?
Violation of the 5th?
Would our world of music be better off if he had, however, invested his time instead learning works by underrepresented composers?
One can’t help but admire his ambition. Viola, however, is an instrument that manages virtuosity in ways unlike a violin. This arrangement, as dramatic as it may be, doesn’t seem to suit the slower response of a typical viola timbre.
Perhaps on violin this arrangement might work.
I recently heard a Japanese composer’s arrangement of the Bach Chaconne for Four Violas Quartet. It was brilliant! It doesn’t take four violists to play one Chaconne, however, but it does sound voluminous this way.
My father performed with the violist Bill Primrose many times and said he had the ease of a great singer. Technique alone cannot accomplish that. I wonder: Would Maestro Primrose play this Beethoven?
Bravo!
Some sloppy playing though. Despite its difficulty it should be cleanly executed. Not to mention intonation problems. He really should do a retake! And yes I’m a violist.

I once performed the entire 1st movement of Beethoven 5 with a tuba trio for the great Arnold Jacobs!
Great fun for all including the master!
LOL!!
My hero.
I have no comment!
Thank you, that was exactly what I wanted to say.
Why actually take time to write a comment, saying that you have no comment ?
The lack of expression, elegance, artistic eloquence, musical discourse, charisma among other essential characteristics previously required of a competent musician lead to an increasingly tolerance (and even appreciation) of such shallow forms of musicianship. Even top pianists and musicians from the best orchestras are becoming like this. Not criticizing the fella — could be a competent machine-gunner — just commenting on the TikTokzation of art and people.
Just because you (arguably) doesn’t mean you should…
Brilliant technique in this transcription. Those speaking on cleanliness of execution should understand that this is brand new. It will be refined.
