Whatever you do, don’t try to sing while crying
OperaDavid Krauss’s latest guest on Speaking Soundly is the American mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges who found her true calling after a traumatic experience as a basketball player.
J’Nai discusses her performance at Jessye Norman’s memorial service, why crying and singing don’t mix well, and why a background in competitive sports is an advantage for an opera singer. She still shoots hoops: ‘once a basketball player, always a player’.
