Amid political moves to replace the Frenchman Dominique Meyer as Sovrintendente of La Scala, the orchestra has issed a statement saying it would like him to stay on for another two years.

The musicians say: ‘At this moment it would be appropriate for the current superintendent and artistic director Dominique Meyer to be able to conclude his mandate in full capacity to what has already been planned for next season and the following one… An extension to the mandate would allow a valid artistic journey to be fully concluded.’

    Oh, really?
Where do you exactly found this so-called statement?
Please, Norman, let it be; your Terragni-guided press campaign has no future at all.
The orchestra is sick of Meyer, and even more fo Chailly. Their era at La Scala is over.

  • The Sandman says:

I think it is too late for such a statement. Meyer aspires to go to Salzburg Festival, why should he stay in Milan for a few months farther?
Without forgetting that the relationship of orchestra and choir with maestro Chailly is past redemption.
Summing up: it would be a lose-lose situation.

    • Concertgebouw79 says:

I have seen Chailly and the choir on tour last year it was not Muti and the orchestra in 2004…

  • Luca Gava says:

The photo of this post is very ambigous, even misleading.
Perhaps Meyer will stay. But surely Chailly will leave, his time at La Scala definitively over.

    • Concertgebouw79 says:

Who do you want after??? Who would be better???? And this is an old photo.

      • Luca Gava says:

The new leadership of La Scala has many options.
Conductors in their sixties: Daniele Gatti or Fabio Luisi.
Conductors in their fifties: Gianandrea Noseda or Antonello Manacorda. Conductors in their forties: Michele Mariotti or Riccardo Minasi.

        • Observer says:

Mariotti is too young and almost no symphonic experience, Minasi can’t actually conduct – good musician though. Manacorda no extensive experience with first range opera houses, Noseda not a good opera conductor, no sense for singers. Think about Rustioni, probably too early for this house. Gatti and Luisi the only reasonable choices – although Gatti already occupied with Semperoper in Dresden, and Luisi with many other symphonic appointments… and on the list for replacing FWM in Cleveland…

            @Observer:
“Manacorda no extensive experience with first range opera houses”: Opéra de Paris, Royal Opera House London, La Fenice Venice, Met New York, La Monnaie Brussels, Liceu Barcelona, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera Munich, and so on. What else do you need?

          • Observer says:

La Scala, Vienna, Metropolitan, Munich, Berlin, Dresden. I said extensive. It means years of repertoire and new productions. Being invited once is not difficult. Being invited again and again is a sign of consistency.

        • Paolo says:

          2007-2012

Chef principale, Metropolitan Opera di New York
          2011-

          Direttore musicale, Opera di Zurigo
          2012 –

Chef principale, Orchestra Sinfonica nazionale della Danimarca
          2016 –

I find it increasingly difficult to read Slipped Disc as the page is littered with ads which flash in your face all the time. It’s unbearable and I’d never buy any of these products because of this visual assault. No other online site I read has this problem.

  • John Reynolds Hall says:

This lackluster orchestra should have no influence
