French pick US baton for Eurostar terminal
OrchestrasThe most any of us ever see of Lille is its Eurostar dropoff point.
This morning, the Orchestre National de Lille announced Joshua Weilerstein as its next music director, starting in September.
Weilerstein, 36, is also Chief Conductor of the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra in Denmark.
The Eurostar for Paris has just left platform 1.
Phenomenal choice!! Wonderfully humble and talented musician.
So next time get off in Lille rather than continuing on to Paris. It’s a wonderful city overflowing with culture – opera, concerts and fabulous museums. The restaurants are great (so are the bars and especially the beer!) and you don’t need to take a metro to cross town.
Very personable and well-informed, but not a serious conducting talent. If we ranked conductors by their ceiling and natural disposition, few today would be true Chief Conductors (e.g. Gatti, Hrusa, Makela). Jarvi a true Principal Guest, Weilerstein would do Education concerts, and Yannick on Pops…
Wow, you are such a boring person. What a rediculous comment. It all is about the chemistry between the person in front and the people in the orchestra. That’s it. Simple as that. One can not speak in such general and at the same time limiting terms as you do. Very dissapointing.
