US pianist dies of autoimmune disease
RIPThe French-American pianist Eugen Indic has died, aged, 76, of a prolonged autoimmune disease.
Son of a Serbian general, he was a regular soloist with the Boston Pops and a prolific recording artist (one of his albums was purloined for the notorious Joyce Hatto hoax). He settled in France in 1952 after marrying into a musician family.
He was hugely acclaimed in Belgrade and Prague.
Interview here.
A Chopin specialist, very active when CD was rising…rip.
Rest in peace, dear Eugene. I recall with pleasure your frequent Boston Pops broadcasts in the 1960s, and regret that your subsequent career took you away from the US.
Great loss to the world of music! Wonderful pianist and a great teacher!
However, I’m pretty sure he couldn’t have gotten married in 1952, I think it’s meant to say 1972 instead.
Eugen Indjic was the recipient of the IV prize at the VIII International Chopin Competition in Warsaw (1970).
Then he received 3rd prize in Leeds, 2 nd at A. Rubinstein competition. He was a student of A. Rubinstein and N. Boulanger. He was for many years member of the jury of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw. A great musical personality and a great person.
Maestro Makela has a signed contract in Amsterdam, and there lies the crux of the issue.
For once, the CSO frowns upon a “menage a trois”.
Eh..?
He was a good man…never said a bad word about anybody
