Gets to do rather more than play solos at the Proms, but good luck to whoever wants to wade through all the usual W1A* “values and behaviours” word salad…

(The picture above shows the current second flute, Tomoka Mukai, by the way…)

    * W1A – a recent, supposedly satirical BBC show that bore quite a lot of similarity to real BBC values and behaviours.

Good luck to any applicants not already in a major position elsewhere. At the recent Associate Principal Timpani audition, only one of the trialists were actually selected from the audition, the rest were auto-advanced to a trial with no prior explanation. Really makes you wonder if the musician selection system in the UK is all that meritocratic.

    • Gerry McDonald says:

It is established practice for candidates with serious professional experience under their belt whose playing is known to the audition committee to go straight to trial, what’s the problem?
