We have been notified of the death of the concertmaster Hannele Angervo-Segerstam, aged 80.

A Galamian student at Juilliard from 1963-65, Hannele won a national competition in 1967 and embarked on a solo career, premiering the works of many Finnish composers. She was also greatly appreciated by Salonen, Berglund, Saariaho and Lindberg among others and made several collaborations with Lutoslawski and Kagel.

She served as concertmaster of Finnish national opera and the radio symphony orchestra, also as a teacher at the Sibelius Avcademy. She was married from 1964 to 1999 to the conductor Leif Segerstam. They had two children.
