The next Maria is working in a butcher’s shop
OperaOpera Australia has announced casting for West Side Story in March.
Singing the role of Maria is Nina Korbe, 25, a rising talent at Opera Queensland who comes from a First Nation family and works at a butchers shop near Brisbane to make ends meet.
A former student at London’s Royal Academy of Music, Nina tells the ABC: ‘Working in the butcher shop keeps me grounded and more balanced.’
She’s a brilliantly talented STAR. Lucky audiences in Oz.
Apparently Opera Australia had to organise a steakout to find her.
So they won’t be able to complain if she’s a bit of a ham on stage?
In related news, the Oscar nominations are out, and Maestro might win them all and then some.
Yes, the Snoopy scene is unforgettable. Ed Wood smiles from above.
It’s just disgusting that musicians in the new world don’t come from intergenerational wealth and privilege.
Obviously she’s got the chops for the role!!
