The Society’s founder, Neva Pilgrim, has died after a long illness, aged 85.

Raised on a Minnesota farm, she sang as a soloist with numerous orchestras and released two-dozen recordings. She was artist-in-residence at Colgate University until last year.

Message from the Society for New Music:
It is with great shock and sadness that Carole and I write to let you know that our beloved leader and dear friend Neva Pilgrim passed last night. Her husband Dick and their son Jason were with her. We will post more information as it becomes available about arrangements for celebrating her life and legacy.
As Neva had been ill the last few months, we have been planning for the future of the organization. And we are doing what Neva wants us to do, which is to go forward and continue the Society’s work on behalf of new music in Central New York. Thanks to all of you for everything you have done to support Neva’s vision and her great work.
With love and gratitude –
Heather Buchman, Board President
and Carole Brzozowski, Managing Director
