The prolific James Callahan of Minnesota passed away just before the year ended.

He composed nearly two hundred compositions for piano, organ, orchestra, choirs, chamber ensembles and bands as well as two operas. He published works for both organ and chorus. His “Overture based on Mozart Themes” was performed by the Minnesota Orchestra, as well as other orchestras, and his “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra” was premiered by Hanley Daws and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Dr. Callahan taught piano, organ, music theory, composition, orchestration, and various other classes at the University of St. Thomas from 1968 until his retirement in 2006.
