Maestro move (2): Belgians pick Nice conductor
OrchestrasThe Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège has appointed Lionel Bringuier as music director from September 2025. He will succeed the London-based Hungarian Gergely Madaras.
Bringuier, 37, is presently principal conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, his home town.
Decrescendo maestro….
Excellent news! Great appointment!
I see that the Tonhalle people are out in full force again. Give it a rest, guys. He enjoyed a good career before he came to you & he will enjoy one after you. You’re the problem, not him. He’s a fine conductor & a lovely person. Save your downthumbs for someone who isn’t.
Just curious how much money Anon received from Mr. Bringuier for desperately defending him in this blog?
None. How much do you get for dissing a former client/MD? Are you paid by the no. of downthumbs? Let Bringuier get on with his life.
Just gonna add that the level of animosity & the obsessive no. of down thumbs every time this conductor is mentioned in this blog goes way beyond what any normal orch would do to a MD 5 yrs. after he’s left. This is some really childish, pathetic s**t.
Tonhalle’s Orch Committee Chair has made a statement here on behalf of the musicians disavowing this behavior. Now I believe him.
This is coming from an ultra vindictive person outside of the orch with a personal grudge against Bringuier. From the pen names they’re using – “West Coast Baller”- we know they’re in the UK. Another pen name here tells us who they are or who they’re affiliated with.
Wow. Shocking. And yeah, if this is how they roll I get why Yuja left.
Ah, another day of female and POC conductors snatching away ALL the jobs and opportunities from white male conductors!
In seriousness, congratulations to both maestros and institutions!
Once upon a time, Belgium was the country with the highest percentage of women conductors… even though it’s a very small country…
Overrated bozo. Send in the clown!
Hard landing ! From Zurich, Europe’s richest city, to Liège, one of Western Europe’s poorest and most depressing cities….
This is a problem because? He’s landed soundly on his feet professionally. If you have issues about the economic disparity of the cities where he’s working why not take it up the overly ambitious manager of the “boutique” London agency who air who inserted him in the Zurich position without a lot of foresight & then dropped him as a client when it didn’t work out.
No dogs in this race here, but I don’t get why that manager is off scott free with no dents in his professional record, while this young maestro has had to pull himself up by his bootstraps again.
Why aren’t the Tonhalle hyenas going after MN?
This banter is fascinating.
Let’s say that Bringuier indeed lacks talent and wasn’t worthy of his Zurich position. Let’s say he wasn’t ready for the big time and that he should’ve grown with roles that are lesser than Zurich. If so, the folks of Zurich should be satisfied that he’s no longer there and that he’s getting roles that are a better fit for him. If Zurich is indeed a destination, it should act like it – no need to punch down.
Exactly. Well said.
But also consider this: there aren’t many orch musicians who’d still be obssessing about a music director who left them 5 yrs. ago. This kind of vengeance surpasses your usual orchestra disgust.
The remarkable no. of down thumbs on anything pro-Bringuier & the snide comments every time his name appears in this blog seem to come from someone much more vindictive than your average orch player. It’s someone in the UK with a serious professional vendetta against Bringuier. I’m curious as to why THIS person continues to throw daggers. What’s the reason? There must be a fascinating story there. . .
