El Sistema apppoints two conductors
NewsAlthough the Venezuelan state music system has faded from world attention since it fell out with Gustavo Dudamel, life still goes on between the staves and the operation is still used as an instrument of state propaganda.
Two new conductors have been named for the Simón Bolívar Chamber Orchestra. They are Joshua Dos Santos and Enluis Montes Olivar. Their first task is to go on tour to the Dominican Republic with Beethoven’s 5th and 7th symphonies, spreading the glow of oppression.

Beethoven was an oppressor?
I do think ‘some’ (not all) of what La Sistema tried to do was to pull the wool over the eyes of the too-many people who don’t pay attention to what goes on in the world and there are many such folk around.
In the rest of Latin American, the oppression does not even glow. An interesting propaganda problem evolves when the nationalization of the world’s largest oil reserves combines with a highly effective, nationwide orchestra program that lends the country a positive light. With such a glowing result, it becomes difficult for capitalist hegemonists to poison all the wells, especially when two US “orchestrated” coup attempts have already failed. But of course, they’ll keep up their efforts of defamation and destabilization in order to rob Venezuela of its oil. (BTW, most of those greedy assholes are based in Texas.) Amazing how long Venezuela has resisted.
Your hate of El Sistema shows up again..
Congrats. to the 2 new conductors,.
Looking forward to their concert in soon to be “liberated” Western Guyana.
If only socialist hypocrisy could kill.
Happy to see SD joining the ranks of the ‘woke’: of course Beethoven is a white male standard-bearer of European colonial oppression, I thought we all knew that.
Spreading the glow of oppression!? Perhaps Norman should praise the organisation for continuing under difficult circumstances, spreading the glow of hope?
