The imposing Tamara Milashkina died today at an advanced age.
A Bolshoi soloist, she was the first Soviet singer to be engaged at La Scala. After leaving the Bolshoi in 1989, she toured extensively in the West.
She is survived by her husband, the leading Russian tenor Vladimir Atlantov. He is now 84.
