RIPThe imposing Tamara Milashkina died today at an advanced age.
A Bolshoi soloist, she was the first Soviet singer to be engaged at La Scala. After leaving the Bolshoi in 1989, she toured extensively in the West.
She is survived by her husband, the leading Russian tenor Vladimir Atlantov. He is now 84.
So not… “Andropov’s soprano”?
The finest Russian soprano. RIP
Fantastic singer
RIP
Milashkina very fine spinto soprano, was born 13 September 1934 and thus in fact 89.
When the Bolshoi Opera visited New York and Washington in 1975, I heard her sing Tatyana with the Onegin of Yuri Mazurok. Both were excellent and drew admiring reviews from, among others, Andrew Porter in THE NEW YORKER.
