Czech wins $30k in New York
NewsThe 2024 Alexis Gregory Vendome has been awarded at the Mannes School of Music to the Czech pianist Robert Bily.
Bily, who is 26, receives $30,000 and a raft of US concert dates.
Created by the late art historian and collector Alexis Gregory, the first Vendome Prize took place at the UNESCO Palace in Paris in November 2000. Over the next 23 years, Vendome established partnerships with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon (2003 – 2009) and The Verbier Festival in Switzerland (2014 – 2019). The most recent competition (2022) took place in New York City at the Morgan Library & Museum. Now, the prize will be managed, hosted, and presented in partnership with Mannes School of Music.
Yet another piano competition winner…how unique…as unique as every other piano competition winner…
All shall have prizes etc etc…
Good for this young man. There’s nothing wrong with competitions. It’s great to see the accomplishments of hard work. Just like every orchestra and almost all chamber groups are populated through the results of some sort of competition, like it or not.
Why is it always for piano?
