We have been notified of the sad death of Glen Adsit, Director of Bands at the Hartt School since the year 2000 and a copious comissioner of new music.

Composers who benefitted from his patronage included Corigliano, Schwantner, Bolcom, Dougherty, Chen Yi, Zhou Long, Susan Botti, and hos own partner, Shuying Li.

His last recording session, a few weeks back, was a new work by Ms. Li, Luminance.

I knew him way back in the day at the University of Michigan. A fine trombonist who pivoted easily to wind ensemble conducting. Sorry to hear this.

  • Jason Quay says:

My first high school band director at Plymouth Canton High School in Michigan in 1991. I’m still a performing musician today thanks to the foundation that he laid. I love playing musical theater and I have a special spot in my heart for Stephen Sondheim thanks to Mr. Adsit.
