The controversial opera director Uwe Eric Laufenberg has left his job as head of Wiesbaden State Theatre with immediate effect. Laufenberg, 63, has left the premises and agreed not to direct there again.

The former Parsifal director at Bayreuth had been waging public slanging matches with politicians over the past couple of years.

  • Heifetz63 says:

O Norman, Laufenburg never directed the “Ring” in Bayreuth. It was “Parsifal”. And a bad one.

  • Simon S. says:

The company had been paralysed due to conflicts between Laufenberg and apparently everyone else. So this is good news. (Laufenberg’s tenure was due to end this summer anyway.)

A new state minister of culture took over last week. I didn’t expect much from him, but getting rid of Laufenberg in three days is not too bad for a start.

    • John Borstlap says:

Maybe Laufenberg was planning Regietheater productions and Wiesbaden has an audience that has the good sense of objecting to such thing in their beautiful classicist theatre.

      • Simon S. says:

Wiesbaden has a rather conservative audience indeed. But this wasn’t the issue.

      • professional musician says:

Maybe.o r maybe not…Just do some research, or is the urge to write a little pointless diatribe against”Regietheater” so big you donĀ“t have the time to check facts?

  • RW2013 says:

Laufenberg and Montavon in the same week – who will be next?

  • Save the MET says:

So his tenure was “laufable”, done and dusted.

  • IP says:

Any bad news about stage directors is good news, I suppose.
