Munich mourns a US tenor
UncategorizedNotice from Bavarian State Opera:
The Bayerische Staatsoper mourns the loss of Eduardo Villa.
He was a permanent fixture at the Bayerische Staatsoper for almost thirty years, four of them as a member of the ensemble, before and after which he was always a welcome and celebrated guest, and even more: a friend of the house.
Born in Los Angeles in 1953, the tenor has now succumbed to the illness he bravely endured for many years. We are grateful to have had him and his enchantingly beautiful voice with us for so long and so often.
He was a very good and kind human being as well. Rest in peace, dear boy
I sang with Mr Villa @ Connecticut Opera back in the late 90’s and 2000’s. Very nice, engaging gentleman with an easy production of sound , a tenor who sang Rigoletto and heavier roles without force in a rather big house and at the Met! RIP EDUARDO
I well remember his BALLO and LUCIA (with Mary Dunleavy!) at The Bushnell!
A very fine tenor and I saw him in Otello in Hartford.
A beautiful voice with a beautiful soul who I was proud to call a friend.
I was privileged to hear him a number times at the Met. He always delivered a solid and reliable performance with a sweetly beautiful voice.
He had quite a rich voice. Wide range.
He was a splendid colleague and wonderful singer. We sang Aida back in 2004 in upstate New York and stayed in contact all those years. Eduardo fought the good fight against his condition with fortitude, grace, humility and above all faith in God. May God keep him and may we remember him.
Eduardo was a personal friend. I sat with him when the girls were born. I drove for him. Traveled to many of his performances, performed with and supported him in Turandot, Un Ballo, and so many more. Im just learning of our loss due to my seclusion from the world. Farewell my friend.
