All change at BBT
NewsSusan Rivers who has run the Borletti-Buitoni Trust for young artists since it was founded 20 years ago, is stepping down.
Her successor, from next month, is Toby Smith, former Director of Performance and Programming at Royal Northern College of Music.
A somewhat ridiculous organisation. Nominations can only be made by directors and conductors, so that the ultimate recipients tend to be managed by a small group of agencies…
Ridiculous sort of sums it up. They have existed on the funding of one source for 20 years (seemingly poorly invested and now running out), which perhaps explains why when you scratch not that far below the surface you find really very little in the way of outcomes other than some nice little projects for young musicians who would have been absolutely fine anyway. Tough gig for Toby Smith to find a way to sustain this as the dosh runs out, particularly with his predecessor bizarrely joining the board to breathe down his neck.
