Valery Gergiev: I am not head of Bolshoi
NewsThe Mariinsky chief has denied a report in Izvestia that he is about to replace Vladmir Urin as head of Moscow’s famed Bolshoi Theatre.
He told a journalist on the Telegram channel:
‘I’m busy enough and haven’t looked for an opportunity to work even more.
‘We consider it necessary to work in our own country, as I have already said. But we’ve just been in China for 20 days, so you can’t blame us for sitting in one place and not wanting to move.
‘The Mariinsky Theater has a strong idea of what our responsibility is. Then there is an idea of what our capabilities are. And there is an idea, it seems to me, of what our responsibilities are.
‘When all three come together in some kind of harmony, it seems to me that it doesn’t matter anymore – two cities, three theatres, four regions, five countries.’
So much for gullible music websites that treated Izvestia as truth.
It’s not that easy to pass Urin in Moscow.
So – much ado about nothing – BUT there were times when Gergiev was all over the world and rarely seen in Russia (?!)
Everyone knows that Pravda is truth, not Izvestia.
Nothing thruthful comes out of the Kremin propaganda shop these days. They are on a 24 hour spin cycle of untruth and in many cases outrageously so. As the papers and journals under fear of imprisonment, or death have to publish the fiction, there is no “Pravda” in Russia, but then again, there never was.
OK, Mr. Lebrecht…you got me to spit out my morning coffee with the last line. Brilliant.
Pass Urin,Moscow or Tirana with enlarged Pro State
I remember him as an excellent conductor, especially in Russian music. OK; he may — for all I know — be a homosexual, a vegan, and sport a beard. But how about a little tolerance for other people with other opinions and loyalties?
VG (shown in the clip below at 2:27 (center) and then again at 4:04 (top left)) was too busy absorbing last Friday at the “United Cultures Forum” (no kidding!) in St-P his best pal (the world-renowned deep thinker – and the internationally-recognized war criminal) Vlad’s lecture about greatness of Russian culture (absolutely!), Vlad’s musings about the importance of culture in general (definitely!!) and (yesss!!!) Vlad’s joke about “sexual minorities, transgenders and other…transformers”. I guess the Drama Theater in Mariupol or the Fine Art Museum in Odessa bombed by Vlad The Culturologist weren’t available at the moment as the venues for that “historic” forum…:-(
