Paris Opéra shut by strike
OperaLast night’s performance of Massenet’s Cendrillon at the Bastille, conducted by Keri-Lynn Wilson, was called off due to a national strike in which some Opéra employees were participating.
The rest of the run appears to be sold out so if you missed it, tough luck.
The number of Opéra nights darkened by strikes this season will soon reach double figures.
The French on strike? Whatever next? You’ll notice it’s only ever the fonctionnaires – those with complete job security – who do this. It’s the national therapy of government employees.
