The winner of the Concours de Genève for flute is Elizaveta Ivanova, 26, associate principal flute at Frankfurt Opera.

Born in Talinn, Estonia, she studied in St Petersburg before settling in Germany.

Winning Geneva usually guarantees a huge career boost.

      She might be Russian, but she was born in Estonia. Multiple websites including Opera Frankfurt confirms this.

    More like incremental career step up over a long period of time, like moving to principal or to a better orchestra.

    There are simply too many winners for too few jobs.

    There is a winner every year, there is a top job opening every 40 years when somebody retires, and then you are competing against 39 other winners of Geneva.

      Not true. Last two winners of flute first prize of Geneva Competition are Silvia Careddu in 2001 and Emmanuel Pahud in 1992. In the last edition, in 2014, no first prize was assigned, and still the two second prize had a very big carreer after it.
